Sir Harry Studholme was a GB Forestry Commissioner from 2007 until appointed Interim Chair in January 2013. He stepped down as Chair in February 2020. He has owned and managed a farm and a forest in South West England since 1990. The forest was the joint winner of the All England Woodland Resilience Award for existing woodland in 2021 and is managed on a continuous cover basis.
He was Deputy Chairman of the Independent Panel on Forestry, which reported on the future of English forestry in July 2012. Between 2011 and 2017 Sir Harry chaired the Phaunos Timber Fund a FTSE quoted international forestry Investment Trust. Sir Harry was Chairman of the South West Regional Development Agency from 2009 to 2012. He is an Engineering graduate of Cambridge University, a Chartered Accountant (FCA), a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Foresters, and accredited Commercial Mediator (CEDAR).
Honorary Professor at the University of Exeter and holds an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Plymouth, and a trustee of their Seale Hayne Educational Trust, which supports its rural research.
Chairman of Adapt Biogas an Anaerobic Digestion Group and the Treasurer of the Devon County Agricultural Association, organising an annual regenerative farming conference, Rootstock.
