Field Station Manager, Technical Services Unit

Responsible for managing:

  • Team of research workers based at Alice Holt, Exeter and Talybont field stations
  • Nursery facilities at Alice Holt
  • Fieldwork, including the establishment, maintenance and assessment of field experiments and survey work on behalf of Forest Research project leaders and external clients across SW and SE England and S Wales.
  • Responsible for tree health survey work across England and Wales.

TSU provides a wide range of technical advice and support services to external clients in the forestry and environmental sectors as well as scientific staff within Forest Research.

Mark joined Forest Research in 2007 having been on secondment to WWF for three years managing an EC LIFE Nature funded woodland conservation partnership project working in the Peak District National Park and Wye Valley AONB.

Prior to this, Mark worked within Forest Enterprise managing two ERDF Projects aiming to enhance the recreation infrastructure of two Forest Parks covering 70 000 ha within Scotland’s first National Park, and as a Forest Management Forester. Before joining the Forestry Commission, Mark worked for a number of private forestry companies involved with native woodland establishment and contract surveying and mapping.
