Anna is developing the indicators which are used to determine the progress in achieving the aims of the Woodlands for Wales strategy published by Welsh Government. The last Woodlands for Wales indicators report was published in 2018 and the primary focus of Anna’s work is to update the data and metrics which are being used to inform these. The indicators will also be applied in other policy areas, including the National Forest for Wales.
Anna will be continuing a review the existing indicators, analysing the data that are currently being presented and looking for gaps. The aim of this work is to improve the relevance and usability both of the woodland indicators and of the metrics currently being used to quantify these. Evidence gaps will be filled, and recommendations made for future indicators as the condition of Wales’s woodlands change due to environmental pressures and as a result of developments in policy, research, and management. More information about Anna’s current work can be found on the project webpage.
Anna first joined Forest Research in August 2023 to work for 10 months as a research technician in the dendrochronology laboratory at our Northern Research Station. During this initial fixed-term appointment she worked within the Climate Change Research group on a project relating to drought resilience in broadleaved trees. Anna took up her current role in January 2025.
