The purpose of this Leaflet is to present a digest of the knowledge and experience gained to date regards harvesting windthrown timber. It is intended mainly as a practical guide for foresters and forest craftsmen directly involved in this work, and the emphasis is placed on harvesting windthrown coniferous timber. The guidance is intended to be of most use in more complex harvesting problems when the trees are windthrown in groups, sometimes extending to cover whole compartments. The associated problems of silviculture, forest protection, management and marketing are not considered in depth.
