This Information Note provides information on the northern wood ant Formica lugubris, the Scottish wood ant Formica aquilonia and the narrow-headed ant Formica exsecta. Information is presented on the legal and conservation status, ecology, habitat requirements and management of these three species. The Note is aimed at a wide range of people with interests in wood ants and wood ant conservation, including foresters, landowners and managers, environmental organisations, local authorities, planners and policymakers.
