What can we learn from the 2012 outbreak of Asian Longhorn Beetle (ALB) in Kent?

Summary

In early 2012, an outbreak of Asian Longhorn Beetle (ALB) was discovered in Kent, England. This wood-boring insect poses a serious threat to many UK and European tree species. Forest Research investigated the social dimensions of the outbreak. The team looked at how to improve rapid detection and response through more strategic stakeholder engagement, clearly defining responsibilities for pest surveillance and dealing with outbreaks, and better communication to raise awareness, including among local residents.
