If you have a query relating to tree species selection or tree species identification, the answers here will help direct you to the relevant resource.
There are a number of factors you will need to consider in order to ensure that you plant the right tree in the right place! The requirements will vary depending on whether you are planting the tree in a garden, in other urban locations, on farmland or in a woodland environment. Although we have a number of tools to help with species selection (such as ESC & the Tree Species Database) the best course of action may to contact a garden centre or your local Woodland Officer through the Forestry Commission (for England only), Scottish Forestry, or Natural Resources Wales (depending on where you live).
We have published a series of video tutorials which you can see here. For further information please see the ESC page.
Because of the number of country-specific and ecological factors involved, you should contact the woodland creation team appropriate for your geographic location. More information is available from the Forestry Commission (for England only), Scottish Forestry, or Natural Resources Wales.
