This Bulletin endeavours to fill in the gaps in our knowledge of poplar cultivation. The choice of varieties is bewildering, and is becoming rapidly more so as new hybrids are produced. The selection of site requires considerable care, and many variations on the basically simple methods of propagation and tending are practised in various countries. As well as those areas, this Bulletin also fills in the gaps and elaborates the basic information given in Forestry Commission Leaflet No. 27, Poplar Planting (Forestry Commission 1948). It may also be said to replace the previous edition of Forestry Commission Bulletin No. 5 entitled Poplars, which has long been out of date.
