The purpose of this publication is to provide information on the various effects of line thinning as far as they are known, and to offer some guidance on methods of working. In this publication line thinnings are considered only in connection with first thinning. Aspects which are covered are the effects of line thinning on growth and yield, crop stability, risks of damage to site and crop, and harvesting. The economic implications of these features are also discussed.
