Cryphonectria parasitica in UK: distribution and diversity of vegetative compatibility types and mating types and associated mycoviruses detection, transmission and hypovirulence.

Current projects

Chestnut Blight

  • Vegetative compatibility groups (vcgs) classic screening among UK isolates.
  • Vcgs molecular profiling by six vic genes alleles DNA amplifications.
  • Linkage with particular countries in Europe, Asia and/or America.
  • Pathogenicity and hypovirulence in sweet chestnut sticks and seedlings.
  • Hypo- and reo-viruses detection by RNA extraction and one-step r-t PCRs and amplicons sequencing.
  • On-plates and sweet chestnut sticks viruses transmission trials.
  • Collate and analyse the data. Bring key and specialized knowledge and most up-to-date protocols. Further tests in new UK and northern France isolates.

Pedro joined Forest Research in 2017 to work in the tree health diagnostic and advisory service. He studied biology at Salamanca University after which he received a PhD at the Basque Country University in 2008 for his thesis on the diagnostics, epidemiology and integrated control of conifer bark beetles-associated fungi. Pedro previously worked at the Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development (2003-2007, 2008-2010), FABI, Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (2011-2013) and the UPV-EHU, Basque Country University (2014-2016).
