Caitlin is the manager of the International Co-operative Programme on Assessment and Monitoring of Air Pollution Effects on Forests (ICP Forests) Level II network in the UK and is a site manager for the Alice Holt location in UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology’s (UKCEH) Environmental Change Network. Her role involves coordinating field sampling and surveys, quality control and analysis of data, and representation of Forest Research in the ICP Forests network.

Caitlin began her role in June 2023. She completed her PhD with the University of Reading in 2024, during which she collaborated with Forest Research and the British Geological Survey, and focused on forest management impacts on soil nutrient cycling. Her PhD involved use of ICP Forests data and field sites, and incorporated a variety of methods ranging from desk-based systematic reviews, a glasshouse experiment, a year-long field study and biochemical modelling with the Biome-BGCMuSo model.

She is involved in the CLEANFOREST Cost Action, where she is a co-leader of working group 2, focused on understanding interactions between nitrogen deposition and climate extremes on forest condition. Since early 2024, she has also been a member of the British Ecological Society’s English Policy group where she contributes to nature-related policy events and reports. Since 2021, she has been the early career representative for Landscape Ecology UK where she organises events related to landscape ecology, and is currently leading a working group focused on environmental monitoring in the context of landscape restoration.
