Salvo Bonomo joined Forest Research in 2022. His journey at Forest Research has been centred around providing field-based support and dendrochronological data analysis to the Climate Change Research Group, specifically focusing on detecting and assessing the impacts of drought on native broadleaf, commercial conifers, and short rotation forestry trees. Within the Climate Change Research Group, Salvo’s activities contribute to advancing our understanding of:

1. The impact of climate change on forests and forestry;
2. The role forestry plays in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and climate change;
3. How forestry practices can adapt to reduce the impact of climate change and promote resilient forests.

Salvo’s role includes overseeing and delivering for two crucial work streams under the ‘BIOFORCE’ (BEIS funded) and ‘FORWaRD’ (DEFRA funded) projects. Salvo also provides dendrochronology and dendroclimatology scientific support to collaborators both within and outside the organization.
