Giulio Curioni joined Forest Research in 2023 to investigate the resilience of native UK tree species and species mixtures to historical drought events using dendrochronology. Previously Giulio had research and professional experience at the University of Birmingham (UK) where he was involved in engineering and environmental projects using new methods for measuring soil physical properties (e.g. soil moisture) and managed environmental research data from a world-leading large scale FACE (Free Air Carbon dioxide Enrichment) forest experiment with the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR). Giulio obtained a BSc and MSc degree at the University of Milano-Bicocca in Environmental Sciences and Technology with specialisation in soil science and a PhD at the University of Birmingham on shallow geophysics.
